6 Ways In Which You Should Be Using a Personal Flipboard Magazine

flipboard-magazine digital-know-howYou can now make your own subscription magazine on the increasingly popular Flipboard app.  Truth be told, unless you have an iOS or Android device, this post may not hold much sway for you.  (Except, perhaps, to wonder how you can make an iPad video screencast recording like the one below.

With the the ubiquity of personal digital assistants, tablet devices and the scramble to find another RSS reader as Google Reader powers down, the popularity of Flipboard and personalized magazine apps is bigger than ever.

But, outside of the niftiness of having a handy reading tool, we thought of 6 other ways to use a personal Flipboard magazine.

6 Ways You Probably Never Thought You Could Use a Personal Flipboard Magazine For

1.  Supplement content for students of your course or workshop.  If you're a teacher, workshop trainer, or coach, then create a Flipboard magazine with content from your course.  Do this by publishing videos, worksheets, and other relevant articles to your website and then adding the URL to those articles into your Flipboard magazine.  During the workshop, make sure students understand how to subscribe to your Flipboard magazine so they can keep the workshop learnings readily accessible long after the workshop is over.  This is also a great way to keep you top-of-mind with your students -- and decision makers for future workshop gigs.

2.  Provide "takeaway" information to attendees of your next speaking gig.  Before your next conference keynote or breakout session presentation, load your Flipboard magazine with online content containing highlights of your presentation, reference materials, examples and handouts.

3.  Use it as a "read later" web archive.  By installing the Flip it bookmarklet on your browser, you can quickly add articles from places you browse on the web into a private "read later" magazine.  Simply flip to "off" the setting for "Let everyone else see my magazine," and you can keep your reading archive all to yourself.

4.  Publish your popular blog articles for your readers.  Group your most popular web articles into a category on your blog, then add the URL to that category into a Flipboard magazine for your readers to subscribe to.  Alternatively, you could also provide the URL to your Flipboard magazine (example: http://flip.it/gLfDB) containing the RSS feed of your blog.

5.  Provide relevant resources for prospects and clients.  White papers, reviews, testimonial videos, pseudo-proposals can all be placed in your personalized Flipboard magazine for client and prospects to subscribe to.  If you have the budget and are in a position to gift iPads to high-value clients, then consider pre-loading your resource content into the Flipboard app on the gifted iPad.

6.  Employee Field Performance Support.  In many companies, field staff and sales reps are given tablets with preloaded content that can assist them in field duties and sales calls.  By using hidden Flipboard magazines (see point #3 above) your team can load scripts, field manuals and guides into a Flipboard magazine for your staff and reps to access.  And, by using the Flipboard editor you can easily manage articles in the "employee field magazine" so the articles are always fresh and appear in the sequence you want them to follow.
